Précision_sur la representation :	Debout, de part et d'autre du tombeau, Nicodème et Joseph d'Arimathie, s'apprêtent à y déposer le corps de Jésus. La tête de celui-ci tombe lourdement sur la poitrine ; la figure s'entoure d'un collier de barbe ; la couronne d'épines est encore enfoncée sur les cheveux qui s'étalent dans le dos. Les deux disciples, portant l'un barbe et cheveux blancs, l'autre barbe et cheveux châtains-foncé, sont représentés de profil, vêtus de sombre. L'un soulève les jambes du cadavre et l'une des extrémités du linceul, l'autre en soutient le dos. Entre les deux, saint Jean, habillé d'une robe verte à encolure ronde, a saisi le bras droit de son maître. Il regarde la Vierge, debout à gauche de la toile, en vêtement carmin, le corps coupé par le montant du cadre. Sous le voile bleu qui couvre la tête, la figure exprime une douleur silencieuse. Les mains sont jointes et serrent un mouchoir entre les doigts (Eugène Voltz, Conservateur des Antiquités et Objets d'Art).
