Description :	A l'origine, l'autel, en forme de tombeau, comportait une face avant décorée d'un panneau fortement mouluré dont la partie centrale était occupée par un agneau rayonnant. Deux gradins supportaient le retable composé d'un panneau central, à bord supérieur cintré, encadré par deux colonnes à chapiteaux corinthiens et deux pilastres similaires. Ces quatre supports étaient chargés de l'entablement dont la frise était ornée de feuillage et la moulure d'oves et de dards. Le couronnement était fait d'un panneau richement décoré de volutes et de fleurs sculptées et formant un cartouche central vide. Une console décorée de feuilles supportait la statue de sainte Vérène.
